Volunteer Point: best for king penguins
Volunteer Point holds the Falklands’ largest breeding group of king penguins alongside gentoo and Magellanic penguins. The site is privately owned and requires advance permission. Official visitor guidance describes the journey from Stanley as roughly two and a half hours and says visitors need a local guide. Much of the appeal is the colony itself, but the demanding road/off-road journey means it should consume most of your port day rather than be combined with an ambitious Stanley itinerary.

Gypsy Cove: best for a shorter wildlife outing

Bertha’s Beach: gentoo penguins and a wild coastline
Bertha’s Beach is a Ramsar site and Important Bird Area on Fitzroy Farm. Gentoo and Magellanic penguins occur here, along with endemic steamer ducks and other birds; Commerson’s and Peale’s dolphins are frequently seen. Day visitors must obtain permission, and charges may apply.
Kelp Point: penguins plus elephant seals
Kelp Point is useful when you want a mixed wildlife experience rather than focusing entirely on penguins. Local guided tours advertise southern elephant seals, gentoo penguins and a substantial 4×4 journey. Confirm the actual duration and return margin with the operator for your ship date.
Battlefield tours: best for 1982 history

Stanley itself is a valid shore excursion
