The island supports major pinniped populations and has become one of the Falklands’ best-known locations for observing predator-prey interactions. Sightings depend on animals choosing to be present; waiting can produce nothing or an extraordinary encounter.

Orca activity is influenced by prey and season rather than a tourism timetable. The broader austral spring/summer wildlife season offers land-based visitor access, while local hosts are the best source for recent activity patterns.

Observe from established viewing areas and follow lodge or guide instructions. Do not move closer to seals or shoreline wildlife in an attempt to position yourself for a hunt.

The most rewarding approach is to spend time scanning rather than constantly repositioning. Orcas can appear and disappear quickly, and predation behavior is unpredictable. Keep a medium-to-long zoom ready but do not move toward seal concentrations to anticipate an attack.
