Volunteer Point
Volunteer Point has the Falklands’ largest breeding group of king penguins plus gentoo and Magellanic penguins. The journey from Stanley is long and includes off-road travel. Advance permission and a local guide are required.
Gypsy Cove
Gypsy Cove lies only about 8.5 km from central Stanley and is known for Magellanic penguins. It is much easier to combine with the museum, cathedral and waterfront, making it more resilient on a short port call.
Which fits your day?

The practical difference
Volunteer Point is the choice when king penguins are the central reason for your Falklands call and you have enough time for the long overland excursion. Gypsy Cove is much closer to Stanley and works when port time is short, weather is uncertain or you also want the museum and town. Gypsy Cove should not be presented as a smaller version of Volunteer Point: its Magellanic-penguin coastal experience is different, and the easier logistics are part of its value.
