A Falklands camera rain cover should fit the body and longest lens you actually carry, stay secure in wind and let you reach essential controls without exposing the camera. Weather-sealed cameras are still not waterproof, so a separate cover is cheap protection in prolonged rain and coastal spray.
Simple sleeve or reusable cover?
Disposable-style sleeves are extremely light and useful as backups. Reusable covers are tougher and often easier to operate for long sessions. Whichever you choose, test it with your telephoto lens and lens hood before traveling.
Wind changes the requirements
Loose material can flap, obstruct the viewfinder or catch the wind. Look for secure drawcords or closures around the lens and enough hand access to operate the camera without opening a large gap.
Rain cover is only one layer
Use a dry bag or protected backpack for transport and a rain cover while actively shooting. Carry clean microfiber cloths for spray and keep wet cloths away from stored lenses.
Test the cover before the trip
Fit the cover with the lens hood, strap and tripod collar you actually use. Confirm you can see the rear screen, reach key dials and operate autofocus without opening the cover. A transparent sleeve is a useful emergency backup, while a fitted reusable cover is better for repeated wet sessions. Dry the cover separately before storing it against camera equipment.
